2nd Annual Laser Tag Challenge
Army Wives vs. Air Force Wives

We held our Annual Laser Tag Challenge on January 14th at the Last Frontier Community Center. It became an annual tradition for the Fort Wainwright Army Wives to play against the Eielson Air Force wives; unfortunately our Eielson friends had a training exercise that night and unexpectedly could not participate. We had 24 Army wives, all dressed in BDUs, ready to defend out title and decided to use this opportunity as a training exercise for the re-match. We had a blast playing Laser Tag and a lot of new spouses joined the CSC on the spot, realizing how much fun you can have with this great bunch of people! Congratulations to Izalia "Lucky" Sandoval, the winner of the Laser Tag Challenge that night. We are waiting to get a date for the re-match against our friends from Eielson and will hopefully soon get a chance to defend our title.

WELFARE & SCHOLARSHIP NEWS:

The deadline to put in an application for a Welfare grant is February 28th and for the Scholarships it is March 6th. So don't miss out on the over $13,000 we raised to give back to the community!

We are currently looking to fill the Welfare and Scholarship Committee, where you review applications and decide on how much each applicant gets awarded based on a lot of factors.
If interested send an email to Welfare@wainwrightcsc.org or scholarship@wainwrightcsc.org

The first meeting will be held at the end of February!
Make a difference and serve on a Committee :)

JANUARY BOARD MEETING:

Our February Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday February 22nd at 1800 at building #4377 in the Taku Gardens housing area on Fort Wainwright! All board members are asked to attend!

Heather Phelps

Board Position: Welfare Chair

Hometown:
Conyers, Georgia

Kids:
Son, Rhys (7 months)

Where did you meet your husband:
My husband and I met our junior year of high school in a math class, started talking, and then dating, and then the rest is history! We were married in 2006.

Tell us something random about yourself:
I am an avid reader of historical fiction! I especially love the Tudor England time period.

What military posts have you been to:
Fort Knox, and Fort Wainwright. Who knows where the Army will send us next.

What do I like most about being a military spouse:
Seeing and living in new places! I love to travel and explore the world and the military has given us that chance. I also love the fact that there is always a challenge being a military spouse from the constant deployments, PCS moves, and trying to keep the household together!

Favorite thing to do in Alaska:
Getting outside during the summer! We love fishing, going down to Denali, and shopping in Anchorage.

Favorite quote:
“With enough courage, you can do without a reputation” – Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind

SOLUTION TO THE JANUARY TRIVIA:

Question:

Who is the "Hostess of Fairbanks"? She is best known for her three decades helping military wives to find shelter in Fairbanks, Alaska during periods of time — particularly World War II — when the demand for housing far oustripped supply. She was also a member of the Fort Wainwright Officer's Women's Club and she was the first woman to win the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce distinguished-service award.

THE RIGHT ANSWER WAS : Eva McGown

We had 4 people submitting the right answer and Tiffany Seale won the free admission to the Wine Tasting! Congratulations!
